Creative Preflight

Creative Preflight Checklist: How to Check Your Ad Before Launch

A finished ad can look ready and still contain production issues that are easy to miss: the wrong shape for a placement, insufficient resolution, text too close to the edge, low-confidence readability, or campaign sizes that still need to be created. A creative preflight check gives you one last quality-control pass before the asset moves into launch.

Overview

Built for the moment before launch

Tadvio Creative Preflight is built for that moment. Upload a finished static creative, review four groups of checks, see a readiness score with clear severity levels, and identify which additional campaign sizes still need adaptation. It is free to use, consumes no Tadvio credits, and requires an account to run the check.

Definition

What is a creative preflight check?

In design and production, “preflight” means checking an asset before it is handed off or published. For static advertising, that means validating practical production details on the finished file rather than judging the creative idea itself.

Tadvio Creative Preflight focuses on four areas: File health, Layout safety, Readability, and Size fit. It is designed to answer questions such as: Is this file large enough? Is important content too close to the edge? Can the text be read confidently from the flattened creative? Which common placements can this exact shape serve?

What it does not do

Creative Preflight does not approve ads for Meta, TikTok, Google, LinkedIn, X, Snapchat, or any other platform. It does not check ad policy, brand compliance, logo presence, CTA presence, video, audio, animation, GIF, PDF, or PSD files.

Why it matters

Why preflight a finished ad before launch?

The point of preflight is not to redesign the ad. It is to catch production risks while they are still cheap to fix. A designer may have finished the composition, but the launch team still needs to know whether the file is technically healthy, whether the content sits safely within the frame, whether the text is readable enough to review, and whether the asset covers the campaign shapes that are actually needed.

  • Catch resolution, file-weight, transparency, edge-spacing, readability, and size-fit issues before handoff.
  • Separate “Must fix” items from “Should improve” suggestions instead of presenting every finding as equally urgent.
  • See when a check could not be verified instead of treating missing information as a pass.
  • Understand campaign coverage from the current creative shape and identify missing sizes for adaptation.
  • Move a finished creative directly into AI Resizer when additional campaign sizes are needed.
The checklist

The four parts of the Tadvio creative preflight checklist

1. File health

File health is measured locally from the uploaded image. Creative Preflight reads the file’s dimensions, file weight, format, and transparency without uploading the original creative for those checks.

  • Resolution: very small creatives can be flagged as Must fix; lower-resolution assets can be marked Should improve.
  • File weight: files over 8 MB are flagged as Should improve.
  • Transparency: any alpha transparency is reported as Should improve so the production team can review whether it is intentional.
  • Format: PNG, JPG, and WebP are reported in the technical details. Format itself is not treated as a pass/fail issue.

Creative Preflight accepts PNG, JPG, and WebP files up to 20 MB.

2. Layout safety

Layout safety looks at how close measured content sits to the frame and whether detected text falls inside Tadvio’s recommended safe area for the creative shape.

  • Edge margin: content touching or nearly touching the outer edge can be flagged as Should improve.
  • Safe area: detected text outside the recommended safe area can be flagged as Must fix.
  • When text cannot be read confidently, the product can still surface measured “text-like” or busy regions and mark the text-specific part of the check as not checked instead of pretending it passed.

3. Readability

Readability is evaluated only when Tadvio’s text reading step can verify the text regions in the flattened creative. The product measures the size of detected text, estimates contrast against the pixels behind it, and checks overall text density.

  • Text size: very small text relative to the creative can be marked Must fix or Should improve.
  • Estimated contrast: strong, measurable contrast can pass; weaker results can be flagged. Photo or gradient backgrounds are treated more cautiously and can require a human look rather than producing a high-severity failure.
  • Text density: if detected text covers more than 40% of the creative, it is marked Should improve.
  • Arabic and mixed Arabic/English creatives are supported in the text reading step, including right-to-left reading.

Why the wording says “estimated contrast”

Creative Preflight analyzes a flattened image, not the original design layers. Contrast is therefore an image-based estimate, not a claim of exact WCAG conformance.

4. Size fit

Size fit compares the creative’s aspect ratio and resolution with known advertising placements. It is a shape-and-resolution check, not a policy check.

  • Size fits: the aspect ratio matches within tolerance and the resolution meets the placement minimum.
  • Too small: the shape is correct, but the resolution is below the placement minimum.
  • Needs resize: the creative uses a different aspect ratio and cannot serve that placement as-is.
The four check groups, each scored separately and each able to report Must fix, Should improve, Not checked or passed results.
Safe areas

How Tadvio safe areas work

Tadvio uses one neutral cross-platform safe-area recommendation per common aspect ratio. These guides are intentionally not presented as official platform-published safe zones. Their job is to provide a conservative production reference for keeping important content away from risky edges.

Curated guides are available for 9:16, 4:5, 1:1, 16:9, and 1.91:1. The 9:16 guide is the strictest because vertical placements commonly have more interface pressure near the top and bottom. When a creative uses another shape, Creative Preflight derives a conservative minimum safe area from that aspect ratio so the layout-safety check can still run.

In the product, curated guides are labelled “Tadvio Recommended Safe Area.” Derived guides are labelled “minimum safe area for this shape.” Neither label should be read as certified platform compliance.

The dashed inset is the Tadvio Recommended Safe Area for this aspect ratio — a conservative production reference, not an official platform safe zone.
Coverage

What placements does Creative Preflight compare against?

The current size-fit library represents 11 common static-ad placements across Meta, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Google Display, LinkedIn, X, and Snapchat. Examples include square and tall feeds, 9:16 stories or in-feed placements, 16:9 video-frame placements for static creative use, and 1.91:1 landscape placements.

Platform filters let the user re-score the same measurements for Auto detect, Meta, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Google Display, or LinkedIn. Switching the filter does not require a new upload or a new server analysis call.

Text reading

How the text reading step works

Creative Preflight does not send every uploaded image for text analysis. It first performs local pixel analysis to find busy, high-frequency regions that may contain text. If no candidate regions are found, no text-reading request is made.

When a reading step is useful, Tadvio sends a reduced-size raster, capped at 1024 px on the long side. The returned text regions are then checked against the actual pixels: regions without glyph detail are removed, boxes are tightened around real glyphs, and missed text-like regions can be added back as explicitly estimated areas.

If the reading step fails, is temporarily unavailable, returns nothing, or conflicts with the pixel evidence, Creative Preflight does not silently mark readability as passed. Instead, the relevant category is shown as “Not checked” and excluded from the available score. The overlay legend distinguishes “Detected text” from “Text-like area (measured, not read).”

Detected text and measured text-like regions are shown separately, so an unverified reading step is never presented as a pass.
Scoring

How the readiness score works

The result is shown as a readiness score out of 100. The four categories — File health, Layout safety, Readability, and Size fit — each contribute up to 25 points when they are fully checkable. Within a checked category, Must fix findings reduce the score more heavily than Should improve findings.

If a category could not be verified, that category is excluded from both the earned and available points, and the overall result becomes “Partial check.” This is intentional: an unavailable check does not inflate the score as if it had passed.

Next step

Campaign coverage: what can this creative serve?

After the quality checks, Creative Preflight shows campaign coverage in two parts. “Current creative fits” lists placements that share the current shape, labelled either Size fits or Too small. “Expand your campaign” lists the distinct shapes the current creative cannot serve as-is.

If additional sizes are needed, “Adapt with AI Resizer” opens a size chooser. Nothing is pre-selected. The user chooses the missing sizes and continues to AI Resizer, where the original full-resolution creative is loaded with exactly those sizes active. Creative Preflight does not calculate the cost and does not generate anything itself; pricing and generation remain entirely inside AI Resizer.

Coverage is split into placements the current shape can serve and the shapes that still need adaptation. Choosing sizes continues into AI Resizer.
Product roles

Product roles stay separate

Creative Preflight checks a finished creative. AI Resizer adapts a finished creative into additional sizes. Studio is for building and controlling compositions with editable Tadvio elements — see how the workflow runs end to end. Creative Preflight does not reconstruct a flattened ad into editable layers.

Privacy

Privacy: what stays in the browser?

Most of the check happens on the user’s own file in the browser. Dimensions, file weight, transparency, edge margins, and pixel-based contrast measurements are local. The original creative is not uploaded for those checks.

For Tadvio’s text reading step, a reduced-size copy — up to 1024 px on the long side — is sent for analysis. The image bytes are not stored. The resulting text-position data can be kept briefly in a workspace-scoped cache so repeating the same check does not require the same analysis again. Creative Preflight does not save the original creative, the report, or the readiness score.

The original full-resolution file is uploaded only if the user deliberately chooses “Adapt with AI Resizer,” and then it is placed in that user’s private workspace source area for the Resizer workflow.

Pricing

Is Creative Preflight free?

Yes. Creative Preflight is free to use and consumes no Tadvio credits. An account is required to run a check because the product runs inside an authenticated workspace. There is no user-facing usage quota. If the optional text analysis is temporarily unavailable, the remaining local checks still run and the result clearly shows which part was not checked. Generation in other Tadvio workflows is covered by Tadvio pricing.

Workflow

A practical creative preflight workflow

  1. 1Finish your static creative and export it as PNG, JPG, or WebP.
  2. 2Open Creative Preflight and upload the finished file.
  3. 3Review Must fix items first, then Should improve items.
  4. 4Toggle the safe-area and text-region overlays when you need to inspect a finding directly on the creative.
  5. 5Check the readiness status and note any category marked Not checked.
  6. 6Review Campaign coverage to see which placements the current shape can serve.
  7. 7If campaign sizes are missing, select only the sizes you need and continue to AI Resizer.
  8. 8Re-check the final assets before handoff or launch when appropriate.
Examples

Common issues a preflight check can catch

  • A creative that looks sharp on screen but is too small for its intended placement.
  • Text or other important content sitting too close to the outer edge.
  • Detected text outside Tadvio’s recommended safe area.
  • Very small text that may be difficult to review at delivery size.
  • Weak or uncertain contrast in a flattened image.
  • A text-heavy composition where text occupies a large share of the canvas.
  • A file that is heavier than necessary for handoff.
  • A campaign that still needs additional aspect ratios even though the master creative is finished.
Questions

Creative Preflight FAQ

What does Creative Preflight check?
It checks four groups: File health, Layout safety, Readability, and Size fit. The result can include Must fix, Should improve, Not checked, and passed checks.
Does Creative Preflight guarantee platform approval?
No. It is a production-readiness tool, not an ad-policy or platform-approval checker. Size fit is based on shape and resolution, and Tadvio safe areas are cross-platform recommendations.
Are the safe areas official Meta, TikTok, or other platform safe zones?
No. Tadvio uses its own conservative cross-platform recommendations by aspect ratio. They are labelled as Tadvio recommendations, not certified platform rules.
Does it check text readability?
Yes, when Tadvio's text reading step can verify the text regions. It evaluates text size, estimated contrast, and text density. If the step cannot be verified, the category is marked Not checked rather than silently passed.
Does it support Arabic?
Yes. The text reading step explicitly supports Arabic and mixed Arabic/English creatives, including right-to-left reading.
Does it check logos, CTAs, brand colours, or ad policy?
No. Those checks are not currently part of Creative Preflight.
Can I check video, GIF, PDF, or PSD files?
No. Creative Preflight currently accepts finished PNG, JPG, and WebP static creatives up to 20 MB.
Is Creative Preflight free?
Yes. It uses no Tadvio credits. An account is required to run the check.
Does Tadvio save my preflight report?
No. Creative Preflight does not save the report, score, or original creative. A reduced copy may be used for the text reading step, and short-lived text-position data can be cached so the same creative does not need to be analyzed repeatedly.
What happens if I need more sizes?
Use “Adapt with AI Resizer.” Choose the missing sizes you want, then continue with the original full-resolution creative loaded into AI Resizer. Preflight itself does not generate or price those outputs.
Can Creative Preflight turn my flattened ad back into editable layers?
No. Creative Preflight checks the finished creative, and AI Resizer adapts the finished creative. Studio is a separate workflow for building and controlling compositions with editable Tadvio elements.
Before launch

Check the creative before the campaign goes live

Creative Preflight gives designers, marketers, and production teams a fast final check on the file they are actually about to use. It does not replace creative judgment or platform review. It gives the team a clearer production picture: what is healthy, what needs attention, what could not be verified, and which campaign sizes are still missing.
